Overtime Pay Calculator
Estimate regular and overtime gross pay with a configurable weekly threshold and multiplier.
The defaults model time-and-a-half after 40 hours. Eligibility and local rules can differ.
Estimated weekly gross
$1,010
40 regular hours and 7 overtime hours.
Field note
Estimate overtime without hiding the assumptions
The calculator separates hours at the regular rate from hours at the overtime multiplier. At $20 per hour for a 47-hour week, a 40-hour threshold and 1.5× multiplier produce $800 in regular pay plus $210 in overtime pay, or $1,010 gross.
The common U.S. federal starting point
For covered nonexempt employees, the Fair Labor Standards Act generally requires overtime after 40 hours in a workweek at no less than 1.5 times the regular rate. The rule depends on coverage and exemption status. Some states, contracts, and employers use daily overtime, double time, or another threshold.
Check the U.S. government overtime overview when you need eligibility guidance. This page provides arithmetic, not a payroll decision or legal advice.
What this estimate leaves out
The calculator does not determine the legally correct regular rate when bonuses, commissions, shift differentials, tips, piece rates, or multiple pay rates apply. It also does not calculate taxes or deductions. Enter the threshold and multiplier that match the rule you are checking, then compare the result with your pay statement.
